Brooks Shane Salzwedel
Brooks received his B.F.A. with honors from the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA in 2004. Using a self-created process, Brooks’s works give both a visual and literal depth to the pieces by use of semi-transparent materials, resins, wax, and acrylics. His unique process is published in the book, Read This if You Want to be Great at Drawing along with iconic artists including Ed Ruscha and Paul Noble.
“My work focuses on natural landscapes disconnected from their usual surroundings or places in time. The work evokes feelings of desolation, loneliness, and confusion of place. Depicting ancient trees, decaying flora, and icy mountains, I construct unnatural landscapes by incorporating emblems of industrialism. Through these terrains, obscure, long-forgotten places and objects, at once familiar and unrecognizable, offer ruminations that challenges the relationship to their meaning.”
