Cara Tomlinson
Cara Tomlinson is an Oregon-based artist whose abstract paintings, drawings, and sculptures investigate the shifting boundaries between human and non-human bodies. Rooted in material process and embodied perception, her work explores how animate and inanimate forms coexist and transform. In addition to traditional paints, she uses unconventional mediums such as plant inks and rust to infuse new life and experimentation into the process of painting.
Her work has been featured in solo and two-person exhibitions at Nüart Gallery (Los Angeles), BDDW Gallery (New York), Whitebox Gallery and the Ronna and Eric Hoffman Gallery of Contemporary Art (Portland, OR), Work Place Gallery (Antwerp), The Governor’s Office (Salem, OR), and the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts (PA). Group exhibitions include PULSE (Miami), AMcE Creative Arts and Cornish Gallery (Seattle, WA), and Archer Gallery (Vancouver, WA). Cara has received support from the Ford Family Foundation, the Oregon Arts Commission, and the Mellon Foundation, and has held residencies at Monson Arts, Ucross Foundation, the Millay Colony, VCCA, and Willapa Bay Artist Residency.
