Wesley Younie
Deeply influenced by the traditions of Chinoiserie, Rococo design, fairy tales, cartoons, and natural history, Wesley creates nature-based paintings that explore links between the ancient and modern, organic and human-made. His work speaks to the ambiguities of contemporary life, in which reverence for nature is increasingly eclipsed by rampant over-development and a fascination with the simulated reality of theme parks and digital technology. As both a fine artist and a professional landscape designer, Wesley is uniquely positioned to address these dialectical themes.
Wesley studied at California College of the Arts and Pacific Northwest College of Art before earning a bachelor’s degree in painting at Portland State University. He lives and works in Portland, OR.
