Maija Fiebig
Born in Seattle, Washington, Maija Fiebig has exhibited nationally in Los Angeles, New York, Portland, and Seattle. Her work is institutionally collected by Microsoft and Harborview, and she is the recipient of multiple fellowships and residencies including Vermont Studio Center. She was also awarded the Professional Edge Award. Maija splits her time making work from her home in the Pacific Northwest, on the road, and sometimes in a small inflatable boat.
Maija is known for her intricate and detailed paintings of abstracted plant forms and patterns. She recently expanded her work to include yarn sculptures and complex textile pieces with embroidery, sequin, and beaded detailing that echo the complexity of her paintings. She likens her spherical “pom” textile sculptures made from thread, roving, and yarn to “small planets” as they resemble three-dimensional landscapes.
