As We Imagined
As We Imagined is a group show exploring the potency and dichotomies of perception, memory, and the imagined. The paintings, photographs, and textile work portray romanticized myths, intuitive orations, prophetic posits, and idealized interiors. The compelling stories they share can be borrowed, revelatory, and occasionally remembered.
Exhibiting artists include Ricky Allman, a.p. gath, Bean Gilsdorf, Melissa Monroe, Jesse Reno, and Grace Weston.
Show viewing room forthcoming.
About the artists:
Ricky Allman paints enigmatic landscapes and incongruous architectural structures that bridge dystopic or utopian worlds.
In his paintings of idealized interiors, a.p. gath curates a rich world of alluring and mysterious collectibles. His flattened perspective and exhubernat excess feel like nods to the maximalism of Henri Matisse.
The three-dimensional work of Portland-based artist Bean Gilsdorf blends sculpture and photography by transforming flat images of cultural and political figures into collaged forms made from printed and patterned materials.
The colorful and fanciful tufted sculptures of Portland-based Melissa Monroe speak to the vulnerability of unmasking and the celebration of authenticity.
Jesse Reno’s mixed-media paintings exude an earnest fervor reminiscent of impassioned passages from a preacher’s sermon. Described as “Contemporary Primitive,” the work articulates a search for understanding through intuition and introspection.
With dark humor and a love of the surreal, Portland-based photographer Grace Weston creates narrative photographs with staged, miniature vignettes that address psychological themes.
